As a trustee of the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD), my primary focus will be on addressing the diverse needs of students from various backgrounds. My aim is to gain a deep understanding of their unique circumstances and aspirations, ensuring that their time at our community colleges is impactful and a valuable investment of their time and talents. I will collaborate to provide comprehensive wrap-around services that support their academic, personal, and professional growth. Additionally, I will work to ensure their next steps—whether transferring to four-year universities, entering the workforce, or pursuing other opportunities—are accessible and seamless.

Throughout my decades-long career as a special education teacher and athletic coach, I have passionately devoted myself to meeting students where they are and guiding them toward realizing their full potential and achieving their desired goals.

Key Priorities

Student Support Services:
I will support the expansion and enhancement of student support services, such as counseling, tutoring, and academic advising, to help students overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals.

Career Development:
I will prioritize the development of robust career development programs that connect students with internships, job opportunities, and industry professionals, helping them build the skills and experience they need to succeed in the workforce.

Transfer Success:
I will work to strengthen transfer pathways to four-year institutions, ensuring that community college students have the necessary academic preparation and support to seamlessly transition to higher education.

Dual Enrollment Programs:
I will advocate for the expansion of dual enrollment programs, allowing high school students to earn college credits, providing them with a head start on their academic careers and reducing the cost of higher education.

Vocational and Technical Education:
I will support the growth of vocational and technical education programs that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for in-demand careers.

Special Education Services:
I will ensure that students with disabilities have access to the specialized support and accommodations they need to succeed—and thrive—in a college environment.

I believe community colleges play a vital role in fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for local residents. As an experienced educator and community college alumnus, I know first-hand the valuable role community colleges play for students. I will advocate for partnerships between the college and the community to address pressing needs and create opportunities for both students and residents alike.
